Let’s face it, cleaning the bathroom is a daunting task that nobody wants to do. Ever. But the bathroom is notorious for harboring germs of all kinds so it’s a must to clean it often to keep bacteria and other nuisances at bay. Check out our tips for maintaining a healthy bathroom to help you keep on top of everything your bathroom can throw at you.

Tools for Cleaning

Disinfecting Wipes

Keep some disinfecting wipes under the sink (or anywhere within quick reach) for simple cleaning on the spot. Think spills like toothpaste or makeup. Wipes make for an easy cleanup when you don’t necessarily need to do a deep clean.

Squeegee

Water buildup is a prime trigger for mold and mildew. Take a couple minutes after every shower to wipe down your shower so push excess water down the drain.

Brushes

Keep brushes of all sizes around for scrubbing down different parts of your bathroom. Smaller brushes are good for reaching into those little nooks and crannies around faucets while bigger brushes help you cover more ground when scrubbing down your tub, shower, or sink.

Broom

While you don’t necessarily need to scrub down your floors all the time, although, you should every so often, be sure to sweep up dirt, hair, and other junk on a regular basis.

Techniques for Cleaning

Clean often in Little Spurts

Instead of always cleaning your entire bathroom at the same time, try cleaning one spot at a time on a weekly basis. For example, clean the toilet every Monday, the sink every Wednesday, wipe down the counter a couple times a week and clean the bathtub over the weekend.

Of course, it’s never a bad idea to regularly do a deep clean and clean everything from top to bottom of the bathroom.

Don't Miss These Spots!

Behind the Toilet

This is a sneaky spot and it’s not always the easiest to reach without being willing to get your hands and knees a little dirty. But it can gather a lot of dust and grime if left unattended for long periods of time.

All Around the Sink (around the drain, everything)

Make sure you get into those little crevices around the handles and under the spout where you can’t see. And don’t forget to get the drain – soap and dirt can get stuck around the drain so take the time to work at this spot.

Shower Curtain/Liner

Clean these! Your shower liner especially can get covered in slimy mildew because it’s taking on most of the water when you take a shower. And keep it closed after your shower so it can dry fully without any folds where water can get trapped and cause mildew to even grow in the first place.

Door Frames

Moisture can get trapped along the door frame when your door is closed as you’re taking a shower and cause nasty buildup so don’t miss this spot when you’re wiping down your bathroom.

Floor Mats

Floor mats can gather a lot of dust, hair, and dead skin cells quite quickly so try to wash these at least once a week to keep them fresh. Most floor mats can go in the washing machine so that makes the chore of washing them a little less annoying.
