Water conservation is incredibly important and it’s not too hard to do! Not only is it good for the environment but it’s also good for your wallet. Your bathroom is a big piece of the water conservation puzzle so it’s a great place to start if you’re ready to change some habits.

Save Water in the Bathtub

Most of us like to enjoy a nice, hot soak in the tub, and that’s fine! We’re not saying you need to start taking cold baths, no way. But, when water takes a while to heat up, we tend to let it run until it gets hot, then we plug it up. That’s where the waste happens. Try plugging the drain and adjusting from there to get to the right temperature.

If your water takes what feels like forever to get hot, though, consider saving some of that cold water for another use like watering your plants or maybe for your pet’s bath.

Save Water in the Shower

Shorter showers save a lot of water. Okay, we understand this one can be tough. With all the imaginary scenarios we create for ourselves or the awesome comebacks we finally think of a little too late, it can be so easy to lose track of time in the shower.

If short showers are a tough feat for you, one trick you can try is turning off the water while you wash your hair or body, then turn it back on to rinse off.

Check for Leaks

Be sure to check for leaks every so often. They may not seem like they’re doing much harm when it’s just a drip every few minutes, but those drips can add up and cause big problems. If you find a leak, take care of it right away.

Is Your Toilet Running?

Then you better go catch it! Really. You’re going to want to stop that toilet ASAP because a running toilet is a big water waster. This is another one that might not seem like it’s doing much damage but it’s even worse than a dripping faucet.

Turn off the Faucet

We’re sure you’ve heard this one before – turn the faucet off when you brush your teeth! Doing so saves a lot of water. You don’t need the water running while you’re scrubbing down those pearly whites so might as well start this good habit.

Same thing goes for when you’re shaving. Instead of running the water every time you need to clean your razor, instead fill up the sink a little and swish your razor around to clean it that way.
