2. Getting Started

Required tools:

  • A drill
  • A set of drill bits
  • An assortment of screwdrivers
  • A fine-tooth hole saw
  • 1½ inch self-tapping washer-head screws or 1 ½ inch galvanized roofing nails
  • A tape measure
  • 3-foot level
  • A hammer
  • Safety glasses

No caulking required.

3. Pre-Installation Planning

  • Check the alcove for proper size and make sure every stud is square and plumb.
  • Add studs at each wall edge if needed. Check the floor for level.
  • Rough in plumbing supply and drain lines, ensuring they do not protrude into the alcove during installation.
  • Cover the tub or shower floor with a piece of cardboard or another protective material.
  • If you would like to install grab bars at a later date, make sure you have ordered reinforced wall sets.

4. Pre-fit the Shower or Tub-Shower

  • Place the tub or shower base into the alcove, making sure the front apron sits firmly on the floor and that all sides are level. Mark the top edge of the unit on studs on all three sides.
  • Place the back wall against the framing wall, and slide the locking tabs into the matching slots on the tub or shower base. Level the back wall horizontally and vertically.
  • Follow the same procedure to pre-fit the sidewalls.
  • Measure and mark holes for valves and filler spouts on the plumbing wall.

5. Remove Components & Cut Holes

  • Remove side walls, back wall and base. Determine hole sizes for faucet components.
  • Drill holes for the filler and valves on the plumbing wall from the inside (smooth side) to the outside.

6. Install Drain & Prepare Foundation

  • Following the manufacturer’s instructions, install the drain assembly.
  • Helpful tip: Though not required, foundation materials such as casting plaster or thin-set mortar can be used as a leveling aid or for additional reinforcement under the tub/shower or shower base.

7. Install the Base

  • Place the base into the alcove to line up with reference marks made during pre-installation.
  • Confirm level installation along all sides, depressing the foundation materials or shimming as necessary.
  • Pre-drill horizontal flanges along the top of the base section, and fasten to each stud.
  • Pre-drill the vertical side flange and fasten to stud in three locations.
  • Put cardboard inside the enclosure to protect the finish.

8. Install the Back Wall

  • Place the back wall against the studs, lowering the locking tabs into the slots on the base.
  • Level the wall horizontally and vertically, shimming if necessary.
  • Pre-drill the flanges along the top and fasten at each stud.
  • Starting at the bottom, pre-drill the vertical side flange and fasten to stud 8 inches on center.

9. Install the Shower Sidewall

  • Slide shower sidewall into position, lowering the locking tab into the slot on the base.
  • Confirm drilled holes align properly to install plumbing fixtures.
  • Check for level and shim if necessary.
  • Pre-drill the flange along the top and fasten at each stud.
  • Starting at the bottom, pre-drill the vertical side flange and fasten to stud 8 inches on center.

10. Install Remaining Sidewall

  • Slide the remaining sidewall into position, lowering the locking tab into the slot on the base.
  • Pre-drill and fasten flanges.

11. Post-Installation

  • Remove any loose debris prior to cleaning the unit. Refer to installation instructions for suitable cleaning materials.
  • If you choose to use caulk, keep 3/8″ unobstructed at weep points to allow for proper drainage.
  • If installing a shower door, follow manufacturer’s installation instructions. For a perfect fit, install an Aquatic shower door.
